Clément Loisel
Exeko is proud to represent Clément Loisel, a very promising young artist, and to help him develop his artistic carrier.
Clément Loisel was raised in an artistic family, and settled down in Montreal in 2001. There, he discovered painting, and since then the flow has never stopped. Four years of visual arts studies at Concordia University and at the Université du Québec à Montréal have improved his practical skills. From 2004 to 2006, he performed with the “P.S.”Collectif, which he also was a co-founder of; this experience taught him all about urban happenings and performing arts traditions. In 2008, he joined the band Babin et les chics clochards for whom he designed the first album cover. In 2004, he took part in the 4th edition of the Agora Festif by doing a live painting performance. In 2005, he started teaching private painting lessons, and achieved in the meantime his first series called Brumes. Brumes was introduced to the public in a downtown Montreal café as Clément Loisel’s first solo exhibition, and it turned out to be a great success since all of his paintings were sold during the opening night! In 2006, he invites the painter Richard Morin to collaborate to the creation of two paintings for Yves Desgagnés’ movie Romeo et Juliette. One of those paintings was featured on the cover of the 2007 Jutra ceremony book. Clément Loisel often works on private orders for paintings or sculptures.
Clément Loisel started a new series entitled Caramel et Barbarie in 2006. This series, made of thought-provoking paintings, deals with a sick and torn society which softly fluctuates between order and chaos. He got his inspiration from popular imagery sources such as newspapers, the Internet, or any kind of magazine, searching through the ruins of our humanity. Clément Loisel is an image maker and an icon painter. He is the witness of this era, which he calls “the weird era”, of a new spreading religion that twists itself to be more attractive: information.
